A local construction company received a community service award Thursday, after their hard work that will impact seniors in Newburgh for years to come.

Mountco Construction and Development Corporation received the award from Senator Bill Larkin at the Burton Towers. Joel Mounty, president of Mountco said when they acquired the building back in 2011 it was not only in poor condition, but it was in foreclosure. Since then, $12.5 million worth of renovations have been put into it. Mounty said his company likes knowing they can help others in a time of need.

“I’ve done about 3,000 of these units, new and rehabbed and there’s nothing more rewarding than giving somebody a home. Whether the home was in poor condition as it was here for a family or a child for a bedroom or a homeless person or our veterans. We do all of this type of housing,” said Mounty.

Mounty said this is the twelfth housing facility Mountco has restored
